The Wine

88 points - "Good value!" Matt Steeves, quercusvino.ca critic

A blend of 85% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot, 5% Canaiolo, and 5% Colorino from the Colli Senesi subregion of Chianti. Like many of the world’s fine wines, Palagetto’s Chianti is hand harvested, fermented in concrete tanks, and aged in large oak barrels. The result is a very fragrant and complex aromatic bouquet with cherries, plum, leather, tobacco, mocha, and a touch of earth. The palate is extra dry with delicate tannins, fresh acidity, and a rustic profile that would be terrific to complement charcoal grilled Bistecca alla Fiorentina served with lemon wedges and cannellini beans. Enjoy over the next few years. Good value!

85% Sangiovese / 5% Merlot / 5% Canaiolo / 5% Colorino

This Sangiovese-based Tuscan red brings raspberry, plum, earth, licorice, herbal and violet notes aromatically, delivering Old World charm. On the dry, medium-plus bodied palate those rustic notes work well with tart cherry, raspberry and licorice flavours, with light, fine tannins and modest acidity adding structure. Drink now with heartier fare or put this away for 12-18 months. Decent value.

 - Decent Value

Perfumed aromas of ripe cherry, red licorice and rose petals waft easily from this light-ruby hued red. It bathes the palate with a balanced and beautiful wash of rich, ripe cherry and strawberry fruit flavours enhanced with good mouthfeel and plenty of tang od the lingering aftertaste. This is medium weight with good purity of fruit and plenty of charm. Lovely sipped on its own, it also pours well with gourmet burgers, spaghetti Bolognese or ribs.
